Volunteer Information

Boring Fire District maintains a force of 60 to 80 volunteers. These volunteers commit to hundreds of hours of training, response and public education. The training ranges from a state rated firefighter with First Responder first-aid to full apparatus operator and Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate level. The response is over 1500 fire and rescue calls per year. Public education consist of team teaching in district schools, community events, and safety information. Become A Volunteer Firefighter
Boring Fire District is currently seeking volunteer Fire Fighters. Application packets are now available at our Boring, Damascus, Eagle Creek Fire Stations and on our website (click HERE for the application).

Volunteers are essential to our success as an emergency services agency. We are looking for people who care about their community, and who are willing to receive in-depth training to become a professional in the field. These men and women will work on a daily basis with career staff and our existing team of volunteers, and will respond on every type of alarm our station receives.

Boring Fire District protects 64 square miles, serves a population of over 17,000. The District maintains17 career and approximately 75 volunteer firefighters. As a volunteer, you will be called upon to possibly save a life. That is why Boring Fire District seeks those who possess the courage to face the unique challenges this job presents and the dedication to become expertly trained. To be eligible for volunteer placement you must be at least 18 years of age, willing to work evening or overnight duty shifts, enjoy a challenge and be prepared to feel a tremendous amount of satisfaction and pride in a job well done. There is no other reward as great as saving lives.

Training For Volunteers
Training for new members begins in January and continues for Classes take place once a week from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon or 7:00pm until 10:00pm and every other Saturday during fire training (first six months). The EMS training is two evenings a week for two terms. Upon completion of training volunteers will be certified EMT Basic or First Responders and hold a rank of NFPA Firefighter I. Certificates such as Haz-Mat Ops, CPR Healthcare Provider, Wildland Firefighter, and others are also earned.

After the completion of the probation training period, standard training is every Wednesday AM or PM. From April on you will be required to respond to calls and/or duty shifts. After the first year, additional training is available for driving, apparatus operation and many more related subjects.

On-going training throughout the firefighters’ career is essential. Volunteer members are expected to attain the same standards and skill levels as full-time firefighters.
